结缕草是一种暖季型、多年生、低矮、具发达根茎、匍匐茎贴地伸长的草皮型草本植物。在我国广泛分布。结缕草是具有我国特色的草坪植物，我国目前使用的结缕草主要都是从野生的结缕草采集的草籽播种。结缕草作为草坪用种是我国目前少有的出口草种，主要生产于山东、辽宁等省。结缕草耐践踏性、耐旱性都很好，也比较耐瘠薄。在北京、沈阳等地用结缕草建成的足球场、高尔夫球场，弹性、耐践踏性、耐逆性、耐粗放管理都比较好，很值得进一步系统研究，以期尽快选育出适合我国自然条件的新品种。
